THE STORY OF HOW OUR ZIP UP HOODIE CAME TO BE

While I have always been an admirer of design forward and impeccably tailored clothing, I have found that for better or worse I live in a uniform. That typically consists of a pair of jeans and a zip up hooded sweatshirt. After years of purchasing hoodies at a multitude of price points and never feeling like anyone was getting it right, I decided to take a stab at it myself! I drew the initial designs (pictured above) and started the process in 2022. We altered the pattern at least 10 times, and worked with several different fabrics before landing on what I believe to be the gold standard for this category.

The No. 1 Zip-Front Hoodie starts with Certified Organic Cotton grown and knit in the United States.  Our heavy fleece is super soft on the inside but structured enough to hold its distinctive shape.  The fit of our No.1 Hoodie is roomy through the arms and body but designed and cut with intentionality to be flattering and oh so comfortable.  The slightly shorter length and wide neck opening give it a feminine vibe without being overtly fitted.  And it’s finished with a bold, shiny gold double sided zipper for maximum POP.

A few things were important to us in the design of this hoodie.

It needed to give us shape!  We live in hoodies, but we are not trying to hide in them.  The length lands between a crop and a classic sweatshirt.  Giving you cozy coverage without the frump.  The bottom up zipper allows visual interest, and aids in giving an hourglass shape.

It needed to stay put!  There’s nothing we hate more than being choked by our own collars.  In an effort to keep our hoodie balanced on the body, we eliminated all side seams, and created a sloped bottom to account for the difference in the front and back body.  This means you won't be continually pulling at the garment to keep it where it belongs.

No itchy tags!  Both our brand label and our care label are super soft printed satin.  Additionally, our care label is attached with a single top stitch for easy removal if need be.

And last but not least...

No more bubbling zippers!  Whether you have a short torso, you do a lot of sitting, or you have just pulled your hoodie from the dryer, the last thing you want to see and feel is that wobbly bubbling zipper.  This happens because a zipper is fixed in length while the fabric around it typically has stretch and is prone to shrinkage.  To that end, our zippers are added to the garment after the wash and dye process, which eliminates the shrinkage from future washes. Additionally the double sided zipper allows you to zip up from the bottom when sitting down or when your outfit calls for a visible waist.

All these details come together at our manufacturing partners in Los Angeles California.

We truly hope you enjoy the finished product as much as we do!
